Using Take My Pet
Take My Pet connects pet owners with pet sitters in their local community. Pet owners can create sitting requests, specify their needs, and pet sitters can browse and respond to these requests. Our unique Pet Points system handles the value exchange without any direct monetary transactions between users.
Pet Points is our unique in-app currency that makes transactions simple and secure. Instead of exchanging money directly with other users, you earn and spend Pet Points within the app. You can earn points by pet sitting for others, and spend them when you need someone to watch your pets.
You can also earn bonus points for completing profile steps like adding pets, and leaving reviews.
You can earn your first Pet Points by:
- Completing your profile setup
- Adding a detailed home description
- Adding your pets with complete information
- Offering pet sitting services to other users
New users receive a welcome bonus of Pet Points to get started!
Pet Points rates are calculated based on several factors:
- Type of service (boarding, sitting, dog walking, etc.)
- Duration of the service
- Special needs or requirements
- Urgency of the request
- Number and type of pets
The app automatically calculates the appropriate rate when you create a sitting request.
Account & Profile
Email verification: When you register, we'll send a verification link to your email. Simply click that link to verify your email.
To delete your account:
- Go to Settings in the app menu
- Scroll down and select "Delete Account"
- Follow the prompts to confirm deletion
Note: Account deletion is permanent and will remove all your data, including your Pet Points balance, profile information, and history.
Pet Sitting Arrangements
To create a pet sitting request:
- Make sure your profile is complete and your address is added
- Add at least one pet to your profile
- Tap the "+" button on the home screen or go to "My Appointments" and tap "Create New"
- Select the type of service you need (boarding, sitting, walking, etc.)
- Choose dates, times, and which pets need care
- Add any special instructions or requirements
- Review the Pet Points price and submit your request
After creating a request:
- Your request becomes visible to potential sitters in your area
- Interested sitters can respond to your request
- When someone responds, a chat is created and the request status changes to "Open"
- You can communicate with the sitter through the in-app chat
- If you're satisfied, you can accept the sitter by clicking "Accept" in the chat
- Once accepted, the status changes to "Arranged" and Pet Points are reserved for payment
- After the sitting period, the status changes to "Completed" and both parties can leave reviews
A Meet and Greet helps both parties feel comfortable before a sitting arrangement. We recommend:
- Meet in a neutral, public location or at the pet owner's home
- Bring the pet(s) so they can interact with the potential sitter
- Discuss specific care instructions, feeding schedules, and routines
- Show any important items (leash, food, medications, toys, etc.)
- Exchange emergency contact information
- Clarify house rules if the sitting will occur at your home
- Discuss communication expectations during the sitting period
Trust your instincts – if something doesn't feel right, it's okay to decline the arrangement.
Safety & Trust
We prioritize safety through several measures:
- Verification: Email verification required for all users
- Review System: Transparent reviews help identify reliable community members
- Secure Messaging: All communication happens through our encrypted platform
- Pet Points System: No direct monetary exchanges between users
- Reporting: Easy reporting of inappropriate behavior or safety concerns
- Support Team: Dedicated team to handle disputes and safety issues
We strongly recommend meeting potential sitters or owners in person before finalizing arrangements.
If an emergency occurs during a pet sitting arrangement:
- For pet health emergencies, contact the vet information provided by the owner
- For non-urgent issues, contact the pet owner through the app
- If you can't reach the owner, contact their emergency contact person
- Document any incidents with photos or notes
- For serious concerns, contact Take My Pet support through the app
We're developing insurance options to provide additional protection for pets during sitting arrangements.
To report inappropriate behavior:
- In the chat with the user, tap the menu icon (three dots) in the top right
- Select "Report" from the menu
- Choose the reason for reporting and provide details
- Submit the report
Alternatively, you can contact us directly through the "Contact Us" section in the app menu.
We take all reports seriously and will investigate promptly.
Coming Soon
Yes! We're currently developing insurance options in partnership with a Dutch insurance company. This will provide coverage for pets during sitting arrangements, giving both owners and sitters additional peace of mind.
More details will be announced as soon as this feature is ready to launch.
